WELCOME FELLOW KARATE-KA
My name is Marc G. To start off: I don’t claim any exceptional martial expertise, I’m NOT a “master” of anything, and I will not offer to make you one. What I am is a Christian by faith, an electrician by trade… and a man who believes in the tradition of martial arts training and how relevent it can be in modern society. I began training in Shoto-kan karate when I was 15 and have been obsessed ever since. I am, now 35 years old and have trained in Seidokan and Fushin Ryu Karate as well as close-combat training as a United States Marine. Other training experience I have includes: Marine Marksmanship Instructor, Airborne Training and Licensed Private Security Officer.
This began as an idea I had a many years ago to teach karate full time. It sounded simple enough. Many other people had done/were doing it, some making a VERY good living. There was only one problem…I was a United States Marine and subject to move at any time. It would have been a little difficult to teach a class in Jacksonville, NC from Camp Pendleton, CA. From there, it became a good idea to someday write a book on the subject. But, I’m not very good at writing and know nothing about publishing, marketing, etc… Then, several years later, it hit me! Why did I want to do these things? I wanted to share what I knew, learn from others’ experiences, and just have commradery with other people who share my drive to train and study the martial arts; whatever their particular art may be.
So, I started scanning the web to see if there were many out there like me. People who love to train, want to learn more and share what they already know. Was I in of a ride! I was hit with a ton of sites offering to: “make me a 10th Degree Master in 6 months, teach me to “take out” anyone no matter how big or teach me to kill a man just by thinking about it AND it would only cost me…” It was like the worst of the old kung-fu theater movies were being marketted as instructional books and videos. And, they were all trying to get me to join their web site.
On the up side, there were the more local sites that were for Dojos and training events in certain cities. They were interesting to read about, but I could only really relate to them if I were in that local area. So, instead I started looking into setting up a site of my own… and, here we are!
So, I hope you like what you see here and stick around to share some of what you know and maybe catch a few new things. And, if there is anything you want to suggest about the site, CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, etc…feel free to contact me and let me know.
